Print and Cut 101 | Silhouette Sunday

Print and Cut is one of the most asked about features of Silhouette Studio. It’s not hard, but it has many steps which means there are a lot of places to go wrong. Do you have questions about sizing, registration marks and print files? If so, this video is for you!

Heart Pen Valentine | Cricut Explore

One of my crafty goals for 2016 is to use my Cricut Explore more often! With that said, here is my first Cricut video for 2016… An easy, Valentine’s Day tutorial for new Cricut Explore owners to follow. 🙂

Happy New Year | 2016

I know, I know…
Where I have I been the last month?!?!  Let me update you on what happened in December.

(Cue Flashback Sequence)
The month started with the best intentions but life, as it does, got all up in the way. My plan was to crank out a few Christmas card videos and film my December Daily progress but none of that worked out. I got sick a few days before Thanksgiving and that was the beginning of the end. 🙁 It all started as a head cold but by day 16, I had moved on to full bronchitis. I needed steroids and antibiotics to make it back to health. The day I got better, my poor husband got sick. My illness, his illness plus the long list of holiday “to-do” list meant there was no time for crafting. Kleenex, NyQuil and sleep was the story of December 2015.

Anyways, I have big crafty plans for 2016!

DIY Project Life Cards | Silhouette Sunday

It’s November 1st and everyone knows what that means….

We can talk about Christmas and not get strange looks! 😀 I love summer, I wouldn’t be a proper school teacher if I didn’t but I might love Christmas a little bit more. Good food, good family and good fun! What more can a girl ask for, right? With that said, it’s time for me to start doing some holiday prepping.
Last year, and the year before that, I considered doing December Daily…. but that’s a story for another day. The story for today is DIY project life cards! While surfing Ali Edwards website, I noticed a new hand written quote for her giveSunday project this year. I decided today was a good day to show you how I make these types of images into Project Life Cards!

Using a toner based printer, I was able to add foil to some of the cards using my Minc. I love foil, it makes everything look fancier!

Pumpkin Treat Bags | Silhouette Sunday

Fall is finally here in Florida. Starbucks has PSL signs in their windows and the temperature has plummeted to 72 degrees. 😆 With that said, it’s time for some fall projects! Halloween is rapidly approaching and I have some mailbox “surprises” I’d like to deliver soon.

While surfing the internet one night, I stumbled upon a “pumpkin face” dingbat font. At first glance, I had no idea what I would use it for but it seemed foolish not to bookmark it for a future project! 😉

I didn’t show the “extras” in the video but I did decide to make my orange pumpkins a little bit cuter by adding a bow. The gingham ribbon is from a five year old sample tube I got a trade show years ago. I get to pat myself on the back for using something else that was hidden deep within the craft stash. The eyes and mouth are sealed using a clear piece of acetate.

Floral Thanks | Everyday Cards

Hey Guys!

It’s world card making day and the best way to celebrate was for me to drop everything and make a card. 😆 This card was for a special friend. If any of you teach, you know what kind of friend I’m talking about… She knows how you take your coffee, you can have a conversation with an eye roll and she shares her bestest supplies with you. My teaching BFF has put up with a lot of my complaining this year and the best way to say sorry is with a handmade card and a purse she loved before she ever saw it! 😉

Bow Birthday Card | Silhouette Sunday

Today, I spent some time exploring sketch designs and pen tools for the Silhouette. So often, I dedicate a large amount of time to some of the more complex tools in Silhouette Studio that I forget about all the bottoms on the left! 😆

It’s really easy to draw or modify designs using the Pen tool. The lines can be set to automatically “smooth out” if you don’t have the best digital drawing hand.

Here is a look at the final product. Thanks for stopping by!

Unboxing the NEW Silhouette Curio!!

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, OH MY GOSH!

Guess what I just got! The poor postman has been at my house non-stop this summer. I need to go back to work! 😆 If you haven’t heard, Silhouette has several new products set to release over the next few months. I have my eye on several items, like the new Silhouette Mint stamp maker as well as some new consumable products. While I wait for those other items to come out I’l just have to enjoy unboxing this new beauty!!

Print and Cut Shaker Card | Silhouette Sunday

I love cards with a lot of pop that require minimal work! If you’ve followed my card-making escapades for a while, you know I tend to swing back and forth on the style pendulum with ease. 🙂 I’ve never been a huge fan of super distressed or shabby-chic but I’m not afraid of layers of pattern paper or tons of white space. Today, I decided to try and blend my need to use pattern paper with my love of white space. I had a special request for set of shaker cards and I knew “tons of work” would turn into “never get done”, lol! My goal: minimal supplies, fast, no stamps, use up some patterned paper….

What do you think? I love it!!

DIY Planner Stickers | Silhouette Sunday

Hey Guys!

I’m back in my craft room from my vacation time teaching summer school and I’ve had a few request for a sticker related tutorial. Before stickers were “cool” I was making them for student work to say “Good Job!”. Now stickers are cheap so most teachers wouldn’t make them but I liked the ability to make HUGE stickers to put on the front of amazing papers. 😀

Ronald McDonald House Charity Stamp Set

Hey Guys!

Tomorrow is the launch of the new  2015-2106 Stampin’ Up! Catalog. One of my favorite items in the new catalog is the yearly charity stamp set for Ronald McDonald House. When you purchase the RMH Stamp set $3 is donated to the charity. This year’s stamp set is called “Sprinkles of Life”. It’s a versatile stamp set featuring lots of shapes that play double duty. A cupcake top can become a tree or a scope of ice cream! (There’s even a matching punch… 😉 ) I’ll update this post with a video and a complete supply list but today I offer a tease…

RMHCard1

I used a sketch from cardchallenges.com that you can see here.Sketch 230

I didn’t deviate from the sketch too much. I did a little flipping and banner trimming but that’s about it. Be sure to stop by tomorrow for a process video, and links to supplies.

NSD 2015 Freebie | Silhouette Sunday

Hey Guys!

As many of you know, National Scrapbook Day was this weekend! To celebrate, I’m offering a free cut file for Silhouette Sunday! I usually make things geared towards card makers but I figured it was time to give my scrapbookers a little love. Plus, I was super sick this weekend so the chances of me getting a project made, filmed and edited was slim to none. The file is a print and cut file of die cut titles. If you have a laser printer, you can use your Minc or high heat laminator to foil it for a fancy touch! 😀

Click here to download the file. You can fill in the cart system with dummy data to check out (123 Main St, ECT…).

Happy Mother’s Day – Part 2 | Silhouette Sunday

Hey Guys!

Soooo remember this card….

momday1

Yes? I posted it as my card for the recent MFT sketch challenge and said there might be a free cut file in the future.  Well, here is that cut file! Be sure to complete the checkout process to download the file. You can fill in the required fields with dummy data “Jane Doe, 123 Main St, etc…”.

Please excuse my extra nasal voice in the video. I’m fighting off a lingering head cold. 🙁

Happy Crafting!

Happy Mother’s Day | Sketch Challenge

Mother’s Day is rapidly approaching and that means it’s time to start making some cards! For my first Mother’s Day card, I created a “card kit” that I can cut with my Silhouette. The inspiration for the cut file came from a sketch from MFT and a stamp set from Stampin’ Up! called “My Mother”. (The “My Mother” set was discontinued. You’ll have to search for it for it if you really want it. 🙂 )

Instead of circles, I used a wavy line and a simple, matted square instead of the two-piece rectangle for the main image. Here is the sketch from MFT:

224

I had the sketch in my head when I started drawing but after you start doodling something, your mind goes other places.  Those other places landed me here…

momday1

I’ll have the cut file, supply list and process video uploaded for you soon! There might even be a free code coming up for Silhouette Sunday! 😎

That faux stitch look… | Silhouette Sunday

I love when you guys send me questions. It keeps me on my toes… makes me stop and think about how I do things sometimes! A few days ago, I got one of those questions that made me stop and think. Not in a deep and profound way but in a can-you-actually-do-that kind of way!

The question was “Can you make that popular (metal die) faux stitch look with your silhouette?”. The question actually made me stop and think about for a second. Knowing that there is a list of subtle differences between electronic and manual die cuts made me take pause.

The answer? Yes and no. You can cut a faux stitch shape using your silhouette but it doesn’t have that rolled-edge-pressure-created look that only a manual die cutting machine can give.

I Think You’re Spectacular | Sketch Challenge

Another week, another sketch challenge!

I’ve finally figured out that they only way to make several cards a week is to use a few sketches. 😉 I’ve really enjoyed the sketches from the MFT blog and decided to stick with it again this week. Here’s a look at the sketch:
223

Surprisingly, I decided to go “literal” this week! I normally deviate from the sketch quite a bit but this week, I’ve opted to follow it pretty closely which ended up being it’s own challenge! (I even took a little side trip to the SSS blog to use another sketch but their challenge was eerily similar. Work it out, all in the middle…just like the MFT sketch I wanted to use! So that is exactly what I did.) 😉

Snap to Grid | Silhouette Sunday

Hey Guys!

One of the more common questions I get (almost every week) is “why do my shapes jump when yours don’t?” In this video, I will show you why shapes jump and the “snap to grid” setting.

Thanks for stopping by!

happy birthday | Sketch Challenge

Hey Guys!

(Note: Your eyes are not playing tricks on you… the post are wonky and out of sync with my Youtube account. I’m doing blog and plug-in updates so some posts are pending while others are going live ahead of time. )

While I work all the kinks out, I have another card to share with you! I’ll update this post with a video soon but they say a picture is worth a thousand words so here you go….

butterfly

I used some super old but super useful tools to put this card together. Originally, I thought I would just glue the ribbon-charm combo on the front but the more I thought about it, the more I assumed it would just fall off. In the video, you’ll get to see me dust off an old Making Memories Ribbon Slot Tool. Some of you old time crafters know exactly what I’m talking about… a tool that required a hammer and everyone in your home to be awake to use! They don’t make ‘um like THAT anymore.

Thanks for stopping by! 😎

On More Card…

Spring break is rapidly coming to a close for me and I couldn’t resist getting one more card done  during the eleventh hour. 😎 I was cruising the My Favorite Things blog before bed and saw the most recent sketch challenge had been posted.

221

Needless to say, it was calling my name! 😉

For this card, I went nautical! I had the MFT Go Overboard stamp set in my stash for a while and had never used it! The trim is actually from the sewing/notions section at Hobby Lobby. My husband is an avid fisherman/boater who has taught me several fancy knots but I always default back to the standard “loop and pull”… some habits are hard to break!

See the process video here…

Indescribable Gift | Easter 2015

Easter is right around the corner so it’s time for me to start cranking out some cards! Maybe it was the odd weather, but everything spring seems to be popping up late to me. Here is sunny Florida, we went from cold to hot and rainy… no transition. In my head, and according my to my thermostat, it’s summer! Maybe that’s why I seemingly forgot that Easter really is right around the corner!

DSC_0319

To kick off my Easter card making extravaganza, I used a new stamp set from Stampin’ Up! called “Indescribable Gift”. It is definitely a throw back to the old school sketch style of stamps that SU! was once famous for in the early days. I colored the image using Sai watercolor makers and almost abandoned the project all together when the aqua brush (user error) exploded! I’m glad I just stuck with it and “made it work”. I see stains on watercolor paintings all the time so, for once, I got to make a mistake look intentional! 😎

Best Wishes to the New Mr. and Mrs. | Silhouette Sunday

I hate making wedding cards. Actually, I hate making sympathy cards but wedding cards are a close second. I have to be honest with you guys… 90% of the time I just buy one in lieu of making one. The pressure for it to look fancy, expensive AND worthy of a wedding are often too much for me. This wedding card was actually made for one reason: This friend is a crafty friend and was DEMANDING EXPECTING a handmade card. The good thing is because she is a fellow paper crafter, her expectations are easier to meet. 🙂

wedding

I used a new paper pad by My Mind’s Eye called “On Trend”. It really lends itself well to wedding style cards and even has a few wedding references in the text on some of the papers. This card could easily be duplicated with steel dies but I didn’t have a card sized heart in my collection. I also wanted the heart to nest into the front panel so using my Silhouette was actually easier in the long run.

Using PixScan for Stamp Masks |Silhouette Sunday

Hey Guys!

Today’s Silhouette Sunday video is all about Pixscan!I know several of you have been waiting for this so I won’t be surprised if I see some comments below that say “it’s about time…” LOL! I’ve actually had my PixScan mat from it’s initial release last year but I’m just now getting around to really using it. I’ve been able to use the scan feature to cut out stamped images and masks so I didn’t see the need to rush into using my PixScan mat when I first got it. Now, PicScan is not a replacement for Print and Cut, it’s just another way to use your Silhouette to do other things. Really, PixScan is a good option for those who don’t have or know how to use their scanner. 🙂

In the video, I mentioned some information I would share in this post for clarification so here you go!

What phones DO NOT require calibration for use?
When you upload your photo, you will get a title bar below the image. If that image has the name of your phone below it, you will most likely NOT need to calibrate. Here are some phones I’ve seen used but this is not a full list! A quick google search may yield more phones but these are the one’s I have been able to test by stealing borrowing phones and devices from my friends. 😉
-Apple iPad mini 2 with Retina Display
-Apple iPhone 4s
-Apple iPhone 5c
-Apple iPhone 5s
-Apple iPhone 6
-Apple iPhone 6 Plus
-HTC Desire 300
-HTC EVOV 4G
-Nokia Lumia 520

My Print and Cut is out of alignment! You said if my Print and Cut is off, then my Pixscan will be off too! How do I fix that?

Print and Cut can be calibrated if it is slightly off to one side or another. I don’t have a video explaining how to do this yet but I plan to do one in the future. I’m happy (and lucky) that my Cameo is not off but it’s not uncommon to have a machine that is slightly off set and needs adjustment. The directions for Print and Cut calibration can be found HERE curtsey of Silhouette America.

Silhouette Sunday Giveaway!

Hey Guys!

So… If you came here from my youtube channel, you know there is no Silhouette Sunday video for this week. I’ve been super busy with family in town and no time to film AND edit a video. I thought about just posting that I’d see you all next week but that’s no fun. Instead, I thought I would do a little giveaway! 🙂

I Do Love You Card- Valentine’s Day Series

Hello, Hello!

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and I am creating my last minute cards. I am notorious for putting these things off until the last minute but this year I actually made good on my promise to myself to be more proactive about finishing projects.

My new problem is not related to crafts… I’ve mentioned this before – I’m really bad about sorting digital things. But I’m not bad about all digital things, I have no problem hitting the delete button. Once I feel like I’m done with something, I get great satisfaction from throwing it in the digital “trash” can. The video for this card was no different… I just forgot to edit and upload it first. 😛

VDSIDoLove

For this card, I used a stamp set from Stampin’ Up called “Big On You”  and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. To make the sentiment stand out, I went over the edges of the text with Twinkling H2O’s. The paper is also from Stampin’ Up. The trim was that sequin stuff from the dollar section at Michael’s from many years ago. I have to admit, I’m proud of myself for using it up! It’s not available from Michael’s anymore but Stampin’ Up sells similar stuff in their line of colors. It’s also available by the yard from many fabric stores. The other sequins are from my stash and the stuff that just fell off the roll after cutting.

Hope you guys like it! Maybe next time I’ll be more careful and look at what I’m deleting before I actually hit the official “delete” button.  😉

Print and Cut FAQ – Silhouette Sunday

Hey Guys!

I’ve gotten a few questions about print and cut over the last few weeks and I thought a Silhouette Sunday video would be a good way to address them.

If needed, I’ll do a project walking through the entire process in the near future.

Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Slider Style Envelope Card

Hey Guys!

So, Christmas is quickly approaching and I am starting the process of packaging up all my gifts and stocking stuffers. I found some cute little nail wraps at the Dollar Store that would make quick gifts for co-workers and family members but I wanted a way to package them without using a big box. After some time tinkering in Adobe Illustrator, I came up with an easy to assemble, slider style envelope/ card.

Honestly, the worst part of this project was glueing on the letters! I’m off to make a dozen more. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy!

The Five Minute Card

You guys know I love the A2 Card #3 die. I use it ALL the time. (As I’m sure you have noticed over the last few weeks!) Today, I’ve used it to create a 5 miniute card!

20131222-220005.jpg

This card base makes quick cards easy. All I did was cut it out of woodgrain cardstock and decorate with ribbon and patterned paper. Want to know the best part of all? It’s finally back instock at www.topdogdies.com 🙂

Peace, Love & Joy Wreath Card

Hey Guys!

I’m here today with another project for Top Dog Dies! This card is pretty clean and simple. Atkins-19-PeaceLoveJoy

I created the wreath using the TDD Cherish Doilies & Tags Die Set.

Now, I know what you’re thinking…. “That shape isn’t there!” Well my friends, you’d be right. 🙂 I mounted two dies inside each other then die cut my paper to create my wreath. They actually come pre-nested when you order them but I already cut mine apart for a different project. You can see the little metal nubs from when I cut them apart.

DSC_1002

To keep the two pieces from moving, I used a piece of washi tape. Think of it as die cutting a die cut!

Ta-da! Instant wreath! That’s it from me today. Thanks for stopping by!
